Mumbai Indians beat Deccan Chargers by five wickets in a last ball finish in their second Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Y.S.Rajsekhara Reddy Stadium here Monday.
Chasing a target of 139, Mumbai Indians made 142 for five with Rohit Sharma scoring a match-winning unbeaten 73.
Earlier, Munaf Patel bowled a brilliant spell as Mumbai Indians restricted Deccan Chargers to 138 for nine in last night's IPL match in Visakhapatnam.
Patel took 4 for 20 as Deccan failed to make best use of Kumar Sangakkara winning the toss. Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 41, while Dan Christian added 39 and Cameron White was not out on 30.
But Patel was also involved in an unsavoury moment when he and Mumbai skipper Harbhajan Singh confronted the on-field umpires after they turned down their appeal against Sangakkara. The Deccan captain edged on to his stumps, but the ball then hit wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik's pads and rebounded back on to the wickets.
The umpires initially gave Sangakkara not out, but after an ugly confrontation they agreed to go to the third umpire and the batsman was given out.
Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar hinted yesterday that he would need some more time to recover from the finger injury that he sustained against title-holders Chennai Super Kings during the inaugural match of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League.
