Pietersen to tour India: Flower
Monday 19 September 2011

England coach Andy Flower revealed that ace middle-order batsman Kevin Pietersen will be a part of the squad that faces India in five ODIs and a one-off T20I.

Pietersen, rested from the five one-dayers against Mahendra Dhoni's men in the United Kingdom this month, didn't play for Surrey in the weekend's Clydesdale Bank 40 final triumph over Somerset and it was suggested that the star right-hander was set for an extended break.

"That is not in our plan," said Flower.

"I am not sure who in Surrey would make those judgements. They haven't come from me or the captain."

The 31-year-old Pietersen, who will not feature in the back-to-back T20Is against the West Indies at The Oval toward the end of the month either, has been nursing a wrist injury. Flower maintained that the batsman should be fully fit come the limited-overs tour of India.

"It was a combination of injury and needing to rest," added Flower.

"He was wearing strapping and had a cortisone injection that worked for a short period of time and then wore off.

"That wrist should be fine by now." he revealed.
