India will beat WI: Srikkanth
Thursday 26 May 2011

Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Zaheer Khan won’t be there. Gautam Gambhir is also likely to miss the flight. But Chairman of Selectors for Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Krishnamachari Srikkanth, is confident that the Indian cricket team will win the upcoming series against the West Indies.

Speaking to mediapersons after an event in Chennai, Srikkanth said he was confident of the team selected for the series.

“I think we will do very well. I think we have an excellent team and I think as you know, I think all the last couple of years indirect or directly there have been teams that has been, we've always had teams, we've always kind of shuffled people so that, we always create a good bench strength.

“And I think we have a fantastic bench strength and I'm sure India can easily produce almost two good international teams because we have the talent. We have the potential and I’m very confident that our team will do very well in West Indies and hopefully win the series in West Indies,” he asserted.

Newly appointed coach of the Indian cricket team Duncan Fletcher will also join the tour.

The 62-year-old Fletcher has been signed on for a contract of two years and he replaces South African Gary Kirsten, who turned down an extension of his contract after the 2011 World Cup.

Kirsten signed off after an immensely successful stint with the Indian team with a World Cup victory.

In opener Gautam Gambhir’s absence, Suresh Raina is likely to lead a second-string Indian side to West Indies next month for a five-match ODI series and a solitary T20I.

BCCI will pay more to boards for allowing their cricketers to play IPL
The Indian board, though, will make the payments on pro-rata basis, which will depend on the duration of the player’s availability during the season.
