BCCI fails sponsorship test!

The BCCI's marketing committee has awarded the title sponsorship for international series and domestic tournaments to be played in India during the 2014-15 season to Micromax Informatics Limited. India will play one international series against the West Indies.

According to a BCCI release, "The winning bid for the Title Sponsorship Rights in the 2014-15 season was made by Micromax Informatics Ltd, for a fee of Rs 18,01,80,000."

Micromax submitted the lone bid in Mumbai, as the BCCI failed to attract sponsors for international cricket in India, yet again. Star India was the lone bidder for the 2013-14 cycle and had won the rights last year at the base price of Rs 20 million.

According to the BCCI, the board failed to attract too many bidders, as the current season has only one international series at home. BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel added that the BCCI expects more corporate interest for the next rights cycle. "By the time the next tender would be floated, market conditions would have improved," Patel said. "Besides, the new FTP cycle would have started and we will be better placed to evaluate the situation."
