Raina first to cross 2000 runs in IPL
Tuesday 01 May 2012

Chennai Super Kings' Suresh Raina became the first-ever batsman to cross 2000 runs in the Indian Premier League on Monday. Raina achieved the feat during the course of his 44-run knock against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Prior to this match, the left-handed Raina had 1865 runs from 64 matches at an average of 35.86. Raina, who top-scored for his team on Monday with a 34-ball 44, has been playing in the cash-rich Twenty20 league since its inaugural edition in 2008.

During his stay at the wicket, Raina entertained the partisan crowd with some fluent hits to the fence. In all, the left-handed batsman struck four fours and a six. Of all his boundaries, the six Raina scored off Brett Lee over long-off was the most noteworthy.

He was eventually dismissed at six short of his half-century by Jacques Kallis as Chennai were restricted to a modest 139 for five. KKR won the match by five wickets.
