There good news for West Indies fans with the International Cricket Council clearing off-spinner Shane Shillingford of an illegal bowling action.
Shillingford who has played five Tests is now available for selection for the ODI and Test series against India. The West Indies have already chosen the squad for the first two one-dayers and Shillingford can only hope to be selected for the remaining three ODIs and the three Tests. The offie, who underwent five months of intensive remedial work on his bowling action, could be a valuable addition to the Windies spin attack.
The ICC informed the West Indies Cricket Board of Shillingford being cleared on Saturday. Umpires reported Shillingford for illegal action after the West Indies first test against Sri Lanka in November in Galle. The Dominican was subsequently banned in December. He underwent remedial work in Barbados and Dominica. The 28-year-old was cleared based on a biomedical bowling analysis done in Australia last month that confirmed that his action had been modified successfully.
