Daredevils delighted with new acquisitions
Delhi Daredevils are happy with their new acquisitions - Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene and young all-rounders Andre Russell (West Indies) and Doug Bracewell (New Zealand) - at the Indian Premier League players' auction on Saturday.
"We are pleased with the acquisitions at the auction here and are confident we can be competitive through the season," said Team Mentor TA Sekar.
"Going into the auction, we were very clear that we would strengthen our middle-order batting and look for all-rounders. We are happy to have found what we targeted."
Sekar was delighted with the acquisition of Jayawardene and felt that the Sri Lankan's wealth of experience would be a great boost to the team.
"There can be no doubt that Mahela will make a difference to the team with his vast experience and his approach. We are delighted that we could add a true blue professional of his stature to our roster," he said.
In 106 T20 matches, Jayawardene has scored 2,631 runs with two centuries and 17 half-centuries. He has a strike-rate of 136.81 runs. With 1,136 runs in 49 IPL matches, he has been among the most prolific batsmen in the tournament since its inception in 2008.
The Daredevils have also added explosive England batsman Kevin Pietersen to the side this season. The Englishman was transferred from Deccan Chargers.
