Watson & Johnson doubtful for NZ Test
Wednesday 23 November 2011

Injured Australian duo of Mitchell Johnson and Shane Watson will be monitored closely this week before Australian selectors determine whether the pair will be fit for the first Test against New Zealand starting December 1.

Paceman Johnson, who struggled with the ball but played a winning hand with the bat in a series-leveling two-wicket victory over South Africa on Monday, had scans on the big toe of his left foot in Johannesburg.

All-rounder Watson, who was unable to bowl after straining his hamstring in the first innings, also had medical scans before returning to Australia and will be "monitored over coming days to determine his availability for the first Test in Brisbane," Cricket Australia said in a statement on Wednesday.

Australia play two Tests against New Zealand before starting a four-Test series against India on December 26.
