Aditya Verma, secretary of the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) and the petitioner in the spot-fixing case, has alleged that the overseas broadcast rights of the Indian Premier League for the United Kingdom and Europe were allotted without a tender being called for the same.
BskyB was awarded the rights earlier this year for three seasons of the IPL starting from 2015 but the deal, Verma alleged was pushed through earlier this year when N Srinivasan was president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Verma added that he had apprised the IPL probe committee about the BskyB deal. “Earlier this year BskyB secured the rights for the IPL for UK and Europe for 2015, 2016 and 2017. These broadcast rights were awarded without a proper tender process being in place. N Srinivasan was the head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India earlier this year when the deal was signed.”
