According to reports, Chief Operating Officer of the IPL, Sundar Raman is considering his future with the successful T20 tournament after the Supreme Court left it to the interim president BCCI-IPL Sunil Gavaskar to decide on his future. Aditya Verma - the petitioner from the 'unrecognised' Cricket Association of Bihar - too has urged Gavaskar to remove Raman.
Others have been busy 'pouring their heart out' against the man who's been at the helm of money-making affairs in the IPL for the last six years. A senior official involved with the IPL affairs told The Times of India on Monday night to "watch out for Sundar Raman. He may put in his papers."
Sundar himself hasn't said a word yet. Those associated with the IPL since its inception, can be categorised into two segments — those who sided with Lalit Modi and those who remained loyal to N Srinivasan.
With Modi as IPL chief, Sundar was always by his side. When the tide turned, Sundar again was the first one standing as a BCCI witness against Modi. Those who know him well recall how he easily made the turnaround. It sure spoke a lot about Sundar's mastery over the art of survival in the messy business of Indian cricket administration.
Some complain about Sundar's arrogance while others see him as Srinivasan's 'yes-man'. But franchise officials also point out that "he's also a proven hand".
Mumbai Police's transcripts presented to the Supreme Court inquiry committee, headed by Justice Mukul Mudgal, points at Sundar's role in passing insider information. Besides, the inquiry report also points out his proximity to Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and withholding crucial information.
Gavaskar has previously sought the opinion of franchise owners on their feedback on whether to continue with the services of Sundar Raman, according to reports.
